India Boosts Imports of Russian Fertilisers to Two-Year High

India has sharply increased its imports of Russian fertilisers, reaching the highest level since mid-2023, according to an analysis of Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry data by Sputnik.

In July, Russian companies supplied fertilisers worth $280.9 million to the Indian market, more than double the figure from a year earlier (2.1 times higher). This marked the largest monthly value since June 2023, when shipments reached $282 million.

From January to July 2025, India’s imports of Russian fertilisers totaled $1.3 billion, a 40% increase compared with the same period last year.

Russia remains the leading supplier of fertilisers to India. The closest competitor is Saudi Arabia, which shipped fertilizers worth $885 million in the first seven months of the year – also 1.4 times more than the previous year. Morocco ranks third, with exports to India rising 2.1 times to $578 million.

The strong growth highlights Russia’s continued dominance in India’s fertiliser market, despite global trade shifts and competition from other producers.
