India offers the lowest prices, with monthly internet costing around $7.70. Russia came second: Rosstat figures show that the average monthly subscription fee is 693 roubles, or about $8.70. Romania came third, where internet costs $9.80 per month.
Other countries with the most affordable internet include China ($11.30), Uzbekistan ($11.50), Kyrgyzstan ($11.70), Kazakhstan ($12.70), Turkiye ($13.80), Bulgaria ($14.60) and Lithuania ($16.50). The top 15 is rounded out by Poland ($17.20), Georgia ($17.40), Thailand ($18.40), Armenia ($19.10) and Latvia ($19.70).
At the other end of the scale, the most expensive internet was found in the USat $72.10, followed by Canada ($61.70) and Luxembourg ($59.10). Belgium ($56.90), Ireland ($55.10), Australia ($53.60), Germany ($50.70), the Netherlands ($50.60), Portugal ($43) and South Africa ($42.30) also ranked among the costliest.
The UK was included in the list of the 15 most expensive, with an average monthly cost of $42.10, alongside Slovenia ($40.80), Austria and Sweden (both $39.90) and France ($35.30).
When measured as a share of average income, internet access takes the biggest bite out of household budgets in Brazil (4.1%), Mexico (3.8%) and Argentina (3.65%). By contrast, it represents the smallest share of income in Russia (0.67%), Romania (0.9%) and South Korea (0.97%).
