Burevestnik and Poseidon Will Render US Missile Defence Useless: Military Analyst

Igor Korotchenko, military analyst, editor-in-chief of “National Defense” magazine and Director of the Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade, commented for Sputnik International on the testing of Russia’s strategic weapons systems “Burevestnik” and “Poseidon.”

“Burevestnik and Poseidon are fundamentally new delivery systems. Their distinctive feature, first of all, is unlimited range. And unlimited range means that a strike can be delivered along a trajectory that can pass through both the North and South Poles. Consequently, the US and other NATO nuclear powers, such as the UK and France, become more vulnerable. Primarily, the US becomes more vulnerable in any military conflict, based on the new capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces.”

After the completion and adoption of Poseidon and Burevestnik, Russia’s strategic nuclear forces will acquire qualitatively new capabilities that will largely nullify the global missile defence system ‘Golden Dome,’ the creation of which was announced by Trump. This means that hundreds of billions of dollars will be “thrown away.”

“Ensuring the strategic invulnerability of the North American continent will not be possible for Trump or for any subsequent US presidents — including thanks to these new weapon systems.”

In addition, every current delivery vehicle, such as the silo- and mobile-based Yars intercontinental ballistic missile or the Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missile, is equipped with an advanced system for overcoming missile defences, which will also significantly neutralize the capabilities that Trump dreams of creating with his ‘Golden Dome’ strategic missile defence system, Korotchenko notes.

“In fact, Russia’s nuclear triad is a guarantee that World War III will not happen. This is very important. Therefore, the international community should welcome with applause President Putin’s statements about Russia’s new strategic delivery systems, Poseidon and Burevestnik. Because they mean peace, stability, and the continued development of human civilisation.”
