Indian Army Deploys Monorail to Support High-Altitude Troops

To overcome the logistical challenges posed by extreme weather and rugged terrain, the Indian Army has developed an indigenous monorail system for troops stationed at high altitudes in the Kamin Himalayas in Arunachal Pradesh.

At 16,000 feet (4,880km), where supply routes are often blocked by snow and ice, the monorail will transport vital supplies such as food, ammunition, fuel, and engineering equipment to remote posts. With a capacity of 300 kg, it serves as a lifeline in areas where traditional transport cannot operate.
Additionally, the monorail will be used for medical evacuations, providing a faster alternative to helicopters, which are often grounded due to weather conditions. This new system is expected to drastically reduce evacuation time and ensure soldiers receive timely medical attention.
Designed and built by the Army, the monorail is an example of indigenous innovation aimed at solving unique logistical problems in challenging environments. It will play a key role in improving the operational readiness of troops stationed in remote high-altitude regions.
