"I had a very good telephone call with Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, concerning Greenland. I agreed to a meeting of the various parties in Davos, Switzerland. As I expressed to everyone, very plainly, Greenland is imperative for National and World Security. There can be no going back," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Greenland is part of the Danish Kingdom. However, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that the island should become part of the United States. Danish and Greenlandic authorities have warned Washington against seizing the island, noting that they expect their territorial integrity to be respected.
He has posted on his Truth Social images showing the US flag on the territories of Canada, Greenland and Venezuela.

In the first image, Trump in his office at the White House shows European leaders a map, on which the territories of Venezuela, Canada and Greenland are painted in the colors of the US flag.
In the second image, Trump places the US flag on the territory of Greenland. The leader is accompanied by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance. The sign on the picture says that Greenland became a US territory in 2026.
Reports also say Trump stressed that Denmark cannot protect Greenland, adding that Danish officials do not even visit the island.
"We have to have it. They have to have this done. They can't protect it, Denmark, they're wonderful people," Trump told reporters, as quoted by Reuters, adding that Danish officials "[are] very good people, but they don't even go there."
He believes that his plan for Greenland will not meet strong resistance.
