Sultan Ibrahim arrived in St. Petersburg on Sunday for a private visit. On Monday, Putin met him at the Hermitage, where he and museum director Mikhail Piotrovsky guided the Malaysian monarch through several exhibits.
Following the tour, Putin and Sultan Ibrahim held a private discussion. The visit continued with a working breakfast.
The leaders previous meeting occurred in August 2025 at the Kremlin during the sultan’s state visit to Russia.
The meeting focused on deepening bilateral ties in economic cooperation, particularly in energy and trade, and on enhancing diplomatic engagement, reflecting Russia’s growing role in Asia through partnerships with India, China, and other Southeast Asian countries.
