He said the case was transferred to the NIA because it involves “serious terror and security implications of both national and international significance.” According to him, India’s adversaries have historically targeted the country’s periphery to destabilize the nation.
“Foreign powers have long held an interest in India’s northeastern region. If you want to weaken a nation, you ignite unrest on its edges — and at present, Myanmar is the ideal staging ground for such forces,” he said.
US Activity, Covert Networks Reported in Northeast Border Areas
The former NIA officer revealed that American individuals have been observed near the borders of Mizoram and Manipur “for a long time,” suggesting the presence of coordinated foreign operations.
According to him, the pattern points to a deliberate effort to train anti-India ethnic elements in and around the Myanmar border. “This is a well-organized network involving drone handling, jamming systems, weapon training — all aligned to weaken India’s internal security architecture.”
Drone Warfare Becoming a Major Security Concern
He warned that foreign-backed groups are now pushing drone-centric tactics designed to exploit India’s challenging terrain.
“Anti-drone technology is still evolving. If trained groups start deploying drones in forests, remote hills, and difficult terrain, the threat will escalate dramatically,” he said.
According to the former NIA official, the objective of these operators and mercenaries is clear: “They want India placed in a weaker strategic position in the future.”
