Russian Superjet Cabin Surpasses Foreign-Made Versions: Russia's Minister of Industry and Trade

Russia’s fully import-substituted SJ-100 Superjet now features a domestically produced cabin that outperforms its earlier foreign-supplied counterpart, Russia’s Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov said in an interview with Sputnik.

According to the minister, the new interior has already been installed on one of the aircraft undergoing assembly at Zhukovsky, marking a key milestone in the country’s aviation import-substitution programme.
“The interior cabin was recently installed on one of the aircraft at Zhukovsky. This includes cabin panels, passenger and flight-attendant seats, and interior systems such as air-conditioning and lighting. It is better than the cabin supplied to the previous Superjet by foreign companies,” Alikhanov said.
The Russian-built SJ-100 cabin was first unveiled to the public in late January at the Wings India 2026 aviation exhibition, where it drew attention as one of the major Russian showcases at the event.
The SJ-100 is a short-haul narrow-body airliner developed as part of a comprehensive system- and component-level import-substitution effort. The aircraft will become a new member of the Superjet family currently in service, strengthening Russia’s push for greater technological independence in civil aviation.
Certification of the SJ-100 is planned for August 2026. Out of 42 contracted aircraft, 26 units are already in various stages of production, according to the industry ministry.
