Mallikarjun Kharge's comment came after the BJP slammed Congress Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi for allegedly insulting the Indian Army over the Tawang clashes.
A row erupted in the Indian parliament on Tuesday over claims Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge recently made during a public rally in Rajasthan.

"Congress stood for the country and helped attain Independence after its leaders gave supreme sacrifices. Has [at least] your dog at home died for the country?" Kharge wondered, referring to the governing party.

Now, BJP parliamentarians are seeking an apology for the perceived objectionable analogy of "dog," given the number of freedom fighters linked to the party who made their own sacrifices for India's independence.
However, Kharge flatly refused to comply: "Those who fought for the country's independence - you are asking them to apologize?"
As tensions increased in the Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, the house chairman, appealed to lawmakers to stop fighting and let the legislature function.

"The country's 1.3 billion people are watching us. It is possible that someone got carried away and said something outside... You are not children."

Last Friday, Rahul Gandhi criticized Indian media for not scrutinizing the government on the recent escalation at the India-China border.
"They will not ask a single question about China capturing 2,000 square kilometers of Indian territory (since BJP came to power in 2014), killing 20 Indian soldiers (during the Galwan Valley clashes in June 2020), and thrashing our soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh," Gandhi said.
The BJP spokesperson said Gandhi's remarks were "damaging the morale" of Indian troops, adding that they confront the challenge posed by Chinese troops at the border.
On December 9, Indian and Chinese troops clashed in the Yangtse area of Arunachal state's Tawang sector, which is contested by China and India.
