The Indian Air Force on Thursday successfully test-fired the extended range version of the BrahMos air-launched missile against a ship target from a Su-30 MKI fighter jet.The supersonic cruise missile "achieved the desired mission objectives in the Bay of Bengal region" and gives the Indian Air Force a strategic reach and allows it to dominate future battlefields, the Defense Ministry said in a statement. The extended range of the supersonic BrahMos missile is believed to have the ability to reach targets at sea up to 400 km away.In May, the extended-range version of the supersonic BrahMos missile was successfully tested from a Sukhoi fighter. The extended range was reported to have increased to 400 km from 290 km. This was the first time the missile was tested from a Su-30MKI fighter jet.The 2.55-ton BrahMos missile is designed to be released from a Su-30MKI fighter jet at heights ranging from 500 to 14,000 meters (1,640 to 46,000 ft.). The missile's design allows for a wide range of launch altitudes, providing flexibility in its use in different scenarios.

18:24 29.12.2022 (Updated: 19:25 29.12.2022) At least 25-30 Russian-built Su-30MKI IAF fighter jets will be equipped with extended-range BrahMos missiles.
The Indian Air Force on Thursday successfully test-fired the extended range version of the BrahMos air-launched missile against a ship target from a Su-30 MKI fighter jet.
The supersonic cruise missile "achieved the desired mission objectives in the Bay of Bengal region" and gives the Indian Air Force a strategic reach and allows it to dominate future battlefields, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
“The Indian Air Force achieved a capability boost to carry out precision strikes from Su-30 fighter aircraft against land/sea targets over long ranges,” the ministry added.
The extended range of the supersonic BrahMos missile is believed to have the ability to reach targets at sea up to 400 km away.
In May, the extended-range version of the supersonic BrahMos missile was successfully tested from a Sukhoi fighter.
The extended range was reported to have increased to 400 km from 290 km. This was the first time the missile was tested from a Su-30MKI fighter jet.
