Tensions in Delhi: Opposition Forms Human Chain Outside Indian Parliament
Congress-led opposition parties on Wednesday marched from Parliament to the Enforcement Directorate office in Delhi seeking an investigation into the Adani-Hindenburg case.
Members of various Indian opposition parties on Thursday formed a human chain outside the Parliament in Delhi, demanding that a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) be conducted into allegations against Adani industrial group.
Meanwhile, members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) earlier in the day entered the Well of both Houses of the Parliament, wearing black cloth around their faces before the presiding officers arrived.
The opposition party's members kept pointing toward the treasury benches, shouting: "BJP Ministers and parliamentarians are not allowing the opposition to speak. Not allowing the opposition to express themselves."
The ruckus by the parliamentarians led to the adjournment of both Houses.
As Congress and other opposition parties want a JPC probe into allegations against Adani group, federally ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members are seeking an apology from Rahul Gandhi over his
remarks made in London.
During an interaction with Indian Journalists’ Association (IJA) in London, Gandhi said his recent foot march “Bharat Jodo Yatra” was the need of the hour because the “structures of our democracy are under brutal attack."
