Russia Has No Illusions About US President-Elect Trump: MFA Statement
19:19 06.11.2024 (Updated: 19:21 06.11.2024) MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Moscow holds no illusions about United States President-elect Donald Trump or the new Congress, as the American ruling elite maintains anti-Russian attitudes, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated Wednesday.
"We have no illusions about the elected American president, who is well known in Russia, and the new composition of the Congress, where Republicans, according to preliminary data, are gaining the upper hand. The ruling political elite in the United States, regardless of party affiliation, adheres to anti-Russian attitudes and a line to 'contain Moscow," the statement reads.
Trump's victory in the US presidential election reflects Americans' dissatisfaction with the results of Biden's presidency, the ministry added.
"[There is a] deep civil rift in the United States, where the electorate is divided almost equally. In fact, we are talking about the confrontation between Democratic and Republican states, as well as supporters of 'progressive' and traditional values. It can be expected that the return of Donald Trump will spur increased internal tensions and the hardening of the opposing camps," the ministry concluded.
