Humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip needs to flow without impediments, Indian Permanent Representative (PR) to the United Nations (UN), P Harish, told a UN high-level conference on “The Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution” at the organisation's headquarters in New York on Tuesday.Harish highlighted that tens of thousands of civilians had been killed in the Israel-Hamas conflict since the 7 October attack, with medical facilities destroyed and children being deprived of schooling for more than 20 months. The statement by the Indian diplomat comes amid warnings by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and global aid groups that the Gaza Strip was on the bring of famine. At least 16 children have died due to hunger in Gaza, the UN said on Tuesday. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) platform warned this week that “widespread starvation, malnutrition and disease” were causing a spurt in "hunger-related deaths. He called for "actionable steps" to implement the two-state solution on the ground through "collective efforts" of the international community. At the UN, India has voted in favour of a resolution calling for an “immediate, unconditional, and permanent” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, Harish said that any settlement must take into account the security needs of both Palestine and Israel.

India Backs Unimpeded Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Amid Starvation
11:47 30.07.2025 (Updated: 11:48 30.07.2025) India has told a United Nations (UN) high-level conference that the “humanitarian pillar” demanded immediate global attention as the human suffering in the Palestinian enclave continued unabated.
Humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip needs to flow without impediments, Indian Permanent Representative (PR) to the United Nations (UN), P Harish, told a UN high-level conference on “The Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution” at the organisation's headquarters in New York on Tuesday.
Harish highlighted that tens of thousands of civilians had been killed in the Israel-Hamas conflict since the 7 October attack, with medical facilities destroyed and children being deprived of schooling for more than 20 months.
"Palestinians in Gaza must have access to food, fuel and other basic necessities without hindrance. Humanitarian assistance is vital in sustaining life and must remain outside the realm of politics or conflict," the Indian PR told the conference, which was convened by Saudi Arabia and France.
Further, Harish also reaffirmed India's support for a "Two-State Solution", stating that India was one of the first countries to recognise Palestine in 1988.
He called for "actionable steps" to implement the
two-state solution on the ground through "collective efforts" of the international community.
"India has also been clear on the measures that must be undertaken in the short-term - An immediate ceasefire, sustained and unimpeded humanitarian assistance, release of all hostages, and the path of dialogue and diplomacy. There are no alternatives to these measures," Harish stated, reiterating New Delhi's official position on resolving the conflict.
At the UN, India has voted
in favour of a resolution calling for an “immediate, unconditional, and permanent” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
He stated that India has been playing its part in ensuring that a future Palestinian state remained economically viable by implementing "human-centric projects" worth around $160 million.
At the same time, Harish said that any settlement must take into account the security needs of both Palestine and Israel.
"A sovereign, viable and independent State of Palestine within recognized and mutually agreed borders, living side by side with Israel in peace and security, is a prerequisite for enduring peace and sustainable development," the Indian Representative said.
