Putin called the talk of supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine "show-off bordering blackmail" and emphasized Russia's response to West during a press conference following his state visit to Tajikistan.He said that the tests of new types of weapons are going well and that Russia will be able to announce their appearance in the near future. 18:55 10.10.2025 (Updated: 18:56 10.10.2025) DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (Sputnik) - Russia's response to Ukraine's bid to obtain US-made Tomahawk missiles will be to strengthen the national air defense system, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.
Putin called the talk of supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine "show-off bordering blackmail" and emphasized Russia's response to West during a press conference following his state visit to Tajikistan.
"Our response to the talk of delivering Tomahawks to Kiev is the strengthening of our air defense," he said. “In the near future, we will be able to announce the emergence of new types of weapons.”
He said that the tests of new types of weapons are going well and that Russia will be able to announce their appearance in the near future.
Many countries are considering or even preparing to conduct nuclear tests, and Russia is aware of this, Putin said.
Russia is ready to negotiate with Washington on arms control, the president further said. However, the US withdrawal from the New START - a nuclear arms reduction treaty - would not be critical for Moscow, he stressed.
"If the American side decides they do not need this, it is not critical for us at all. Everything is going according to plan in this regard," Putin said.
