Beijing and Washington continue to hold trade consultations amid the recent escalation in trade tensions, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday.
"The two sides maintain contact within the framework of the China-US trade consultation mechanism and held working-level talks yesterday," the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry noted that the last four rounds of trade consultations have demonstrated that China and the United States are capable of finding solutions to problems based on mutual respect and equal consultations.
At the same time, the statement added that the US cannot, on the one hand, demand negotiations while, on the other, threaten, intimidate, or impose new restrictive measures.
"This is the wrong way to interact with China," the statement read.
On Friday, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 100% tariff on Chinese goods on or before November 1, citing China's "aggressive position on trade."
The Chinese Commerce Ministry said that starting November 8, it would implement export controls on a number of goods related to medium and heavy rare-earth elements, lithium batteries and artificial graphite anode materials, rare-earth metal mining and processing equipment, raw materials and ultra-high strength materials.
