Washington’s interference in the internal affairs of other states is not tied to a particular president, but represents a consistent political course aimed at changing political regimes and establishing control over the resources of different nations, Professor of international law from Libya, Mohammed Zounaydi, told Sputnik.
According to Zounaydi, history shows a long series of American coups and military interventions that have affected many countries, including Venezuela, Iraq, Libya, and Panama. He emphasized that Washington has never fully adhered to international agreements and the UN Charter, which prohibits interference in the political affairs of sovereign states.
US foreign policy is fundamentally built on the logic of force, demonstrations of power, and political pressure, often bypassing moral and legal constraints, he said.
He added that Washington applies a policy of double standards: it criticizes Iran for its nuclear program, while ignoring Israel’s possession of a nuclear arsenal and its refusal to sign nuclear non-proliferation agreements or allow IAEA inspections at the Dimona facility.

Experience shows the US has no genuine friends, as it has repeatedly abandoned its allies in the region without support, leaving them exposed to attacks and strikes, the professor of international law also stressed.

He noted that Washington’s strategic goal, in cooperation with Israel, is to redraw the map of the region and fragment Arab states in order to create a “new Middle East” devoid of strength, where the decisive role and full control over sea routes, straits, and natural resources would belong to Israel.
