Flood Death Toll in Afghanistan Rises to 48, With 73 Injured

The death toll from floods that have swept across multiple provinces of Afghanistan since March 25 has risen to 48, with another 73 people injured, the country's National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) said on Thursday.
"To date, 48 people have died and 73 have been injured due to rains, floods and mudslides caused by them. In the last 24 hours alone, six people have died and seven have been injured," ANDMA spokesman Mohammad Youssef Hammad said.
Over the past 24 hours, floods have completely destroyed 139 residential buildings and partially damaged another 394 buildings, the spokesman added.
"Over the past 24 hours, more than a thousand families have been affected by floods," he said.
The General Directorate of Meteorology of Afghanistan's Ministry of Transport and Aviation announced that heavy rainfall and floods were expected in 33 out of the country's 34 provinces in the coming days.
