Underlining the need for creating a peaceful world, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama argued that spending “a lot of money on weapons” is totally wrong on Friday.
"Genuine compassion is the best weapon to defend yourself... Everybody talks about world peace, but world peace does not come from the sky," he said at the inaugural session of the two-day conference "SEE Learning: A Worldwide Initiative for Educating the Heart and Mind" in the Himalayan city of Dharmshala.
Genuine compassion is the basis of world peace, family peace and community peace, he added.
The Tibetan leader urged people to think about “creating a peaceful world, a compassionate world."
Last month, Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar felicitated the Tibetan spiritual leader with the Gandhi Mandela Award. The award is constituted by the Gandhi Mandela Foundation to recognize the global leaders who inspire citizens for peace, unity, and freedom.
