Police on Tuesday arrested a Muslim man a day before his marriage for faking his religion to wed a Hindu girl in Greater Noida city in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
Haseen Saifi became Ashish Thakur in order to start a relationship with the woman, but his real identity was exposed to her on Sunday. The two had planned to get married on Monday.
As per the complaint filed by the woman, who is a resident of Uttarakhand, the police charged Saifi with forced religious conversion, sexual assault, and blackmail. The man reportedly befriended the victim when she was staying in the Dadri area of Greater Noida, deceitfully introducing himself as a Hindu.
Police revealed that the accused had sex with the woman on multiple occasions, during which he filmed obscene clips of the girl and blackmailed her in order to force her to convert to Islam and marry him.
The woman only got to know about Haseen's religion last weekend, just hours before their wedding, when the accused's father Shakeel Saifi coincidentally arrived at their rented accommodation looking for his son.
As he was not there at the apartment, Saifi's father enquired about him from his neighbors, who told him that there was no one with the name Haseen living there, but a man who calls himself Ashish lived there.
After this episode, the woman realized that she had been cheated and canceled her wedding with Haseen Saifi, before registering a complaint with the police. The cops subsequently arrested him at the same locality.
