Delhi Women's Commission Questions Flipkart & Amazon Over Online Acid Sales

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) issued notice to Flipkart and Amazon over online sale of acid on Thursday in the wake of an attack on a schoolgirl in the city's Dwarka area on Wednesday.
The notice to the online shopping platforms was served after Delhi Police stated that the accused in the recent attack revealed having bought the acid from Flipkart during his interrogation.
In its notice, the DCW asked the sellers to explain why acid was available on their platforms, as well as requesting details of the sellers who have placed acid as the product.
Both platforms have been asked to give their replies by December 20.
In 2013, the Supreme Court of India banned the free sale of acid after increasing cases of acid attacks. The apex court also placed restrictions on those selling acid: only licensed shop owners can sell acid, they must be registered and they must keep a register of those buying, who also need to give a reason and ID.
