Panic gripped residents in India's Uttar Pradesh state after sudden cracks appeared in several houses in the Kanwariganj area of Aligarh city, media reported on Wednesday.
This is the third such incident in India after Joshimath and Karnaprayag areas of Chamoli District in Uttarakhand state.
Media reports quoting residents suggested the cracks emerged after a pipeline was laid by the government as part of the Smart City scheme. The pipeline is reportedly leaking.
The Additional Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation Rakesh Kumar Yadav vowed that necessary action would be taken.
Joshimath Declared Sinking Zone
Land started to sink in Joshimath on January 2, leading to deep cracks in houses and roads.
The area has been declared a sinking zone and a “disaster-prone area”, with state chief Pushkar Singh Dhami announcing relief measures for the residents of the area.
Authorities have also started demolishing hotels and homes that have developed cracks and are no longer safe to live in.
Similarly, cracks were seen in several houses in Karnaprayag area of Uttarakhand on January 9, triggering panic among residents.
