Lionel Messi's father, Jorge Messi, has scoffed off rumors about the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's return to Camp Nou, saying the conditions were not right for him to make a comeback to Catalonia.
"I don't think Leo will play for Barca again," he told reporters at the Barcelona airport.
Jorge further added that Messi is currently under contract with French outfit Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and has not spoken with Barca president Joan Laporta for a long time.
He stated that the former Spanish and European champions have not made an offer either.
"I don't think so, the conditions aren't right. We have not spoken with Laporta and there is no offer."
The increasing debate about Messi's return to Blaugrana comes at a time when his two-year contract with PSG is set to expire in June.
Though the Ligue 1 club's top management, including Nasser Al-Khelaifi, have pushed Messi hard to sign a contract extension, he's yet to agree on terms with the Parisians.
Earlier, this month, former club legend and ex-French international Jerome Rothen warned the Parc des Princes-based side against offering a new contract to Messi.
Rothen went on to say that PSG's contract extension offer to Messi was a bad idea.
"Messi's extension is bullsh*t. There, you have the opportunity to recover a large sum of money from Messi's salary. That can allow you to recruit and improve your squad. For all of that, it's a very bad idea to extend Leo Messi," he told a French publication.
"In terms of image and what he reflects, I do not understand why Leo Messi wants to prolong the adventure. He makes no effort to put the club forward. He never thanks the fans, he lowers his head and goes to the locker room. Even when celebrating his goals, his name is chanted, he never has a nice gesture towards the supporters to thank them. He does not want to invest more in the project. Because of that, it’s not a good idea to keep him," Rothen concluded.
