Punjab police on Thursday said they had arrested five conspirators who allegedly planned to disrupt people near the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
"The motive behind the explosion was to disturb the peace. Explosives used in firecrackers were applied in the blast," Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.
On Thursday, at around 1 am, a low-intensity blast occurred near Heritage Street in Amritsar district. No injuries were reported. This is the third blast in the city in one week.
Yadav said that the explosives were assembled at the Guru Ramdas Inn hotel. We have arrested five people: Azadvir Singh, Amreek Singh, Sahib Singh, Harjeet Singh and Dharmendra Singh. Of them, three were involved in the sourcing of the explosives. One woman is also being questioned."
Meanwhile, Mohali's forensic science laboratory (FSL) team picked up samples from the site. At the same time, the teams of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG) also scanned the area and took samples.
The second blast happened on May 8, near the Sikh Gurdwara Harminder Sahib, famously known as the Golden Temple.
The first explosion happened on May 6. The bomb was reportedly planted in the kitchen's chimney, located in the parking lot of the Golden Temple.
