A train was halted in Brahmapur railway station in Odisha on Tuesday after passengers travelling in it noticed smoke in an AC compartment and alerted the officials about it, officials said.
“It was reported that a minor electrical issue occurred in the coach no. B-5 of Secunderabad-Agartala Express near Brahmapur station. The staff on duty attended to the issue immediately and rectified it,” a East Coast Railway (ECoR) official said.
He further added that the smoke was controlled immediately but the passengers were so much in panic that they refused to travel in the coach as they feared electrical breakdown. They demanded that the coach should be replaced.
On Monday, a goods train plying on a privately-run rail track got derailed in Bargarh area of Western Odisha. However, no casualties were reported.
The train was managed by a private cement factory and it got derailed inside the factory premises.
