The Pakistani Army has sacked three of its officers, including a lieutenant-general, as part of its “self-accountability process” over the attacks on military installations in the country on May 9, said Major General Ahmed Sharif, the head of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Addressing a press conference on the “facts” of May 9, Sharif described the events on the day as a “black chapter in the history of our country”.
“The events of May 9 have proven that what enemies couldn’t do in 76 years, a bunch of miscreants and their facilitators did,” the DG ISPR said. He described the events as a "conspiracy against Pakistan.
Sharif said that the authorities had conducted “two comprehensive enquiries” as part of the “self-accountability process”, which has now concluded.
Besides the sacking of three officers, he informed that “strict disciplinary action” has also been taken against several officers, including three major-generals and seven brigadiers.
Sharif said that the events of 9 May were being planned for several months.
“Under this planning, first a conducive environment was created and people were instigated and provoked against the army,” said the DG ISPR.
He said that then a “narrative based on lies and exaggeration” was spread in and outside the country.
Sharif added that the military authorities were in possession of “evidence” against the people involved in the incidents.
He said that there was a “huge amount of grief and anger” among the veterans and kin of martyrs over what had happened last month.
