India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India was among the top five nations in the world in terms of installed renewable energy capacity.
Addressing the G20 environment and climate sustainability ministerial meeting, Modi said that New Delhi had consistently been at the forefront of taking action on biodiversity conservation, protection, and enrichment.
"India achieved its installed electric capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, nine years ahead of the target of 2030….We have also set a target of attaining 'Net Zero' by 2070," the Indian leader said.
Meanwhile, he also touched upon India’s “International Big Cat Alliance” (IBCA) for the conservation of seven big cats.
PM Modi launched IBCA in April this year to conserve seven big cats: the Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Cheetah, Jaguar, and Puma (Cougar).
Modi said that IBCA was launched as “It is based on our learnings from Project Tiger, a pioneering conservation initiative. As a result of Project Tiger, 70% of the world’s tigers today are found in India. We are also working on Project Lion and Project Dolphin.”
