The Chandrayaan-3 has exited the Earth's gravitational force and is now headed to the Moon, after successfully completing its fifth orbit-raising manoeuvre, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said on Tuesday.
"Next stop: Moon," the ISRO said after the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft was injected into the translunar orbit.
It is now set to be placed on a 'lunar transfer trajectory'.
"As it arrives at the Moon, the Lunar-Orbit Insertion (LOI) is planned for August 5, 2023," the ISRO said.
India's heaviest Launch Vehicle Mark-3 embarked on its third lunar mission on July 14 with the objective of deploying a cutting-edge rover, a locally-developed lander, and a propulsion module.
This mission's primary goal is to carry out groundbreaking experiments on the surface of the Moon.
If successful, this landing would make India the fourth country to achieve this feat, following the United States, Russia, and China.
