Dr Gupta showed up at the ongoing parliament session wearing a garland of tomatoes and ginger, which cost over INR 200 per kg ($2.42) in many places.
The incident drew a lot of attention from politicians and netizens, who have taken to social media to react to it.
While some X, formerly Twitter, users lauded the politician for drawing attention to the burning issue of price rises and found his approach innovative, others poked fun at him.
