Ramaswamy Slams Biden Over Security Aid to Ukraine

US media reported that $13 billion of the military aid for Ukraine, which is expected to be announced on Thursday, will be earmarked for procuring weapons.

A Pentagon fact sheet on 25 July said that Washington has committed more than $43.7 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since last February, with its overall financial aid to Kiev exceeding a whopping $113 billion.

US presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said on Wednesday that Biden’s “failure” to articulate how aid to Ukraine advanced American interests “reeks of corruption”.

The 37-year-old Indian-American presidential contender reiterated his charge that Hunter Biden’s past association with Ukrainian energy company Burisma could be a possible reason why Washington has been helping Kiev.

“It's now fair game to ask whether the geopolitical disaster known as Hunter Biden has something to do with it,” Ramaswamy wrote on social media platform X.

Hunter has been accused of accepting millions in dollars in bribe from Burisma during his time at the board of directors of the company when his father served as the vice-president.

“The compliant (US) media say the $5 million bribe still hasn't been definitively proven, but it's undisputed that Hunter received millions for sitting on the board of Burisma when he has zero expertise and that he involved his father in conversations with board members of a company whose owner was tied to Ukraine's national security apparatus,” said Ramaswamy, a former biotech industry executive.

Ramaswamy also slammed his Republican colleagues like Chris Christie, the former New Jersey governor, who is also eyeing a presidential run on a Republican ticket. This month, Christie paid a visit to Kiev to express solidarity with Ukraine.

“It's shameful that even most Republicans behave like puppets hiding from these facts, but I will not comply,” he said.

The Biden administration’s support for Ukraine has become a testy issue in domestic politics ahead of the presidential election next year, with ruptures emerging in the Republican establishment among those who back providing security aid to Kiev and those who want US’ assistance to cease.

Former US President Donald Trump, who has also announced his intention to contest election next year, has told American media that he could end the conflict within a day if elected to power.

US Violated Commitments Made to Russia in 1990

Ramaswamy said that the US has already fulfilled its commitments to Ukraine at the signing of the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, under which Washington had provided security assurances to Kiev in return for the country giving up its nuclear stockpile which it had inherited from Moscow at the end of Cold War.

But the US presidential aspirant said that Washington has “flagrantly violated” former US State Secretary James Baker’s commitment to former Russian president Mikail Gorbachev.

The US had back then assured Russia that NATO won’t expand eastwards, but the transatlantic grouping has since carried out five waves of expansions, even including former Warsaw Pact members in its fold.

“We're going out of our way to use U.S. military resources to defend an invasion of someone else's border when we're doing absolutely nothing to stop the cartel-aided invasion across our own southern border right here at home. This makes absolutely no sense until you recognize that the very nation receiving those hundreds of billions of taxpayer resources is one of the most corrupt nations on planet Earth — who also paid millions to Hunter Biden,” Ramaswamy said.

The Republican presidential contender has been critical of the Biden administration for not cracking down on the reportedly rising illegal crossings through the Mexico border.
