India Day Festival Kicks Off With Great Pomp in Russia

Celebrating people-to-people ties between India and Russia, Moscow holds the event annually from August 10 to 13.

In the run-up to India's Independence Day celebrations, Moscow residents can dive into the rich heritage of Bharat at the city's Dream Island park.
The India Day festival has become a traditional annual event, where visitors can take part in Veda Weekend and enjoy Bollywood movie. From yoga and Ayurveda workshops to cooking classes and astrological consultations, there is something for everyone at this four-day celebration.
At the opening ceremony on Thursday, the organizers of the festival unveiled a sculpture of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi crafted from proso millet. The sculpture's creator is a Guinness World Record-holding chef, as revealed by the organizers.

“This year the festival is dedicated to the International Year of Millets, so we expect representatives from more than 35 countries to join us,” Sammy Manoj Kotwani, the founder of the festival “Day of India” and President of the Indian Cultural and National Center "SITA", told Sputnik.
