India showcased its latest QRSAM (Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile System) on Monday at international military-technical forum Army-2023, that taking place in Russia, Russian media reported.
Specifics of QRSAM
The short-range anti-aircraft missile system comes with a radar locally produced radar homing head, a multi-functional surveillance radar, and a mobile launcher.
The QRSAM air defense system has been built primarily to safeguard armored vehicles from the adversary's fighter jets, especially when they are on the move, making them a soft target for air strikes.
The QRSAM, having a range of 25-30 km, is unique in a way that it can neutralize enemy aircraft while being on the move. It has been mainly developed for quick response to aerial threats.
Last year, multiple Indian publications reported that the QRSAM underwent a range of trials with the nation's armed forces.
India's presentation of its defense gear at an international business expo comes at a time when New Delhi has intensified its efforts to export military equipment to foreign nations, transitioning from the world's top arms importer to a major seller of defense products.
India's Defense Export Push
From less than $100 million in 2013-14 to nearly $2 billion, India's defense exports have experienced a whopping jump in the last decade.
In this light, the government is targeting exports worth $5 billion by 2025.
Speaking about the "Army-2023" forum, is being organized under the aegis of the Russian Ministry of Defense from August 14 to 20.
Around 1,500 Russian defense firms are participating in the military exhibition, which is being held at the Patriot Congress and Exhibition Center located inside the Alabino training ground and the Kubinka airfield in Moscow.
Eighty five foreign defense organizations are also among the participants.
