X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk on Thursday said that he would sue George Soros-funded NGOs after a report said non-governmental organisations funded by Soros promote censorship across Ireland and Scotland.
Reacting to the post, shared by Michael Shellenberger, Musk said: “Exactly. X will be filing legal action to stop this. Can’t wait for discovery to start!”
Sharing an article titled “Soros-Funded NGOs Demand Crackdown on Free Speech as Politicians Spread Hate Misinformation”, Shellenberger said: “Politicians & George Soros-funded NGOs say "hate incidents" are rising, but they're not. The data show the opposite: higher-than-ever and rising levels of tolerance of minorities. The reason they're spreading hate misinformation is to justify a draconian crackdown on free speech”.
In the article, Irish journalist Ben Scallan said that non-governmental organisations funded by US financier and philanthropist George Soros promote censorship across Ireland and Scotland, including police searches of private residences and personal devices.
However, the article did not name any Soros-funded NGOs involved in censorship, but it questioned the timing of hate crime reporting.
The reaction is seen as part of the Tesla CEO’s effort to combat what he perceives as a growing crackdown on free speech, particularly within online platforms.
