‘Ridiculous’: Twitterati Discontent With Elon Musk’s Idea to Change Twitter Logo
The logo of the microblogging site was changed temporarily in April this year. The bird was replaced by Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog.
Mixed reactions erupted on Twitter after the microblogging site's owner Elon Musk on Sunday said that he plans to rebrand the platform and bid adieu to “all birds”.
In several tweets, the billionaire entrepreneur first said “paint it black” and later created a poll asking whether the colour of the platform should be black or grey.
Later, he said in a tweet: “And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds”.
Hinting at the new logo, Musk in another tweet said: “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we'll make go live worldwide tomorrow”.
A few hours later, he shared a video of what is likely to be the new logo of the microblogging site.
However, Twitter’s website said that its logo, depicting a blue bird, is “our most recognizable asset”, adding “That's why we're so protective of it”.
Musk has had the name "X" on his mind for some time now. Last year, he bought Twitter for $44 billion and later merged the company into an entity called X Corp.
Even welcoming Linda Yaccarino, the new CEO of the company, in April, he said that he's “looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app”.
However, the bombshell dropped by Musk triggered mixed reactions, as apparently few welcomed the move, while many lambasted his decision.
Criticizing Musk’s decision to change the logo and rebrand the platform, one user wrote: “X mean 'the end' or something else? Usually people use pigeons to deliver letters or send messages. You should keep the Twitter logo”.
Meanwhile, another said: “Changing twitter logo to X is just ridiculous. Elon Musk should have just started a new platform from scratch instead of ruining an existing good one”.
Another user promised to delete his account if the logo of Twitter is changed. He tweeted: “The second that the Twitter logo turns to an X, is the moment I delete my account. This has gone too far”.
On the other hand, one, user welcomed Musk’s decision, but suggested he stick with the Space X logo, as he tweeted: “Stick with Space X logo it stands for freedom from Earth and for Twitter it can stand for freedom to think on Earth”.
