The Indian authorities will deploy fighter jets, air defense systems, special forces and Artifical Intelligence (AI) technologies to guard the airspace of New Delhi during the G-20 Summit, defense ministry officials have told India Today.
The IAF will place the Rafale fighter jets on “heightened alert status” and operationally ready, while state-of-the-art AWACS surveillance aircraft will also be part of the elaborate security details to be put in place.
The Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) and the Akash air defence missile are also reportedly part of the government’s security strategy at the Summit.
Officials have also disclosed that indigenously-developed DRDO Netra, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), would also be be deployed for surveillance operations in the skies of the National Capital.
Major air bases around Delhi—Hindan, Ambala, Bhatinda, Adampur and Sirsa—have been “activated” to deal with any contingency situation, according to the news report.
Explosive Detection Dogs at Key Locations Around Delhi
Officials have also revealed that nearly 70 “explosive detection dogs” from Delhi Police’s elite K9 Squad will be stationed at various locations around the New Delhi district.
Around 13 of these dogs have been inducted from Indian Army's RVC (Remount and Veterinary Corps), the news report said.
The two-day summit will witness global leaders and top officials from multilateral organizations such as United Nations (UN) visiting the Indian capital.
According to police, the leaders and their spouses are also scheduled to pay a visit to locations such as Rajghat (memorial of Mahatma Gandhi), Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) and the National Gallery of Modern Art during their visit to New Delhi
