An Indian teacher ranting over not getting a holiday on Raksha Bandhan in a viral video cost him his job as he was suspended from the school in Bihar state's Khagaria district.
In the viral video, the teacher, identified as Sunil Kumar, can be seen taking out his frustration and criticizing the additional chief secretary of the Bihar Education Department, KK Pathak, while his sister, who had to travel around 90 km from Bhagalpur to Khagaria, ties him a Rakhi (sacred thread) inside Mathurapur school premises.
Posted on the X (formerly Twitter) handle of Bihar Shikshak Manch, the video didn't go down well with higher officials.
On Friday last week, Kumar was slapped with a suspension letter that mentioned that his salary payments would be blocked with immediate effect.
The teacher also faces departmental action for making indecent and objectionable statements towards the higher officials.
The video, which is now making the rounds on the Internet, has left the net divided. While a section of netizens slammed the government, others came out in support.
"Sir, the government has its own priorities. If you wanted your sister to tie Rakhi, you could have taken leave or asked your sister to travel a day in advance to your house. Why invite action? Being a teacher and showing such indiscipline is not good", one user wrote.
"The curtailment in leaves available to schools in Bihar (which were excessive as compared with other states) was long overdue. The Bihar government's decision should be welcomed rather than politicized", another user commented.
