BJP Wins Three Seats in Bypolls for Six States

Voting for seven assembly seats in six Indian states took place on September 5. The Congress Party, Samajwadi Party and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha also won some spoils.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victory in three out of the seven assembly seats at the recent bypolls held in six states.
The BJP won both the assembly seats – Boxanagar and Dhanpur – in Tripura alongside Bageshwar in Uttarakhand.
Congress’ Chandy Oommen won the Puthuppally seat in Kerala while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s Bebi Devi won the Dumri seat.
As per reports, Samajwadi Party’s Sudhakar Singh backed by the newly-formed opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) is leading by a huge margin in the Ghosi assembly seat against BJP’s Dara Singh Chauhan.

I.N.D.I.A Bloc’s Crucial Test: Bypoll Results in 6 States Underway
BJP’s Tafajjal Hossain defeated Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Mizan Hossain by a huge margin of 30,237 votes in the Boxanagar assembly seat in Tripura. Tafajjal got 34,146 votes while Mizan received only 3,909 votes.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Bindu Debnath registered a victory against Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Kaushik Chanda by a margin of 18,871 votes in the Dhanpur seat in Tripura. Debnath got 30,017 votes while Chanda got only 11,146 votes.
Apart from this, BJP’s Parwati Das won Bageshwar assembly seat in Uttarakhand by a margin of 2,405 votes as she got 33,247 votes whereas Congress candidate Basant Kumar got 30,842 votes. Notably, Kumar was leading during the initial counting of votes but couldn’t maintain the lead later.
In Kerala, former state chief Oommen Chandy’s son Chandy Oommen defeated Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Jack C Thomas and BJP’s Ligin Lal.
Oommen got 78,098 votes while Thomas got 41,644 votes and BJP’s Lal managed to get 6,447 votes.
Trinamool Congress candidate Nirmal Chanra Roy defeated BJP’s Tapasi Roy on Dhupguri assembly seat in West Bengal by a margin of 4,309 votes as he received 97,613 votes whereas Roy got 93,304 votes.
Jharkhand’s ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won the Dumri assembly seat as its candidate Bebi Devi defeated the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) candidate Yashoda Devi. Bebi Devi got 100,317 votes while Yashoda Devi managed to get 83,164 votes.
The JMM candidate was backed by the I.N.D.I.A bloc while the AJSU candidate was backed by the BJP.
The result in the Ghosi assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh is likely to go against BJP as the I.N.D.I.A bloc-backed Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh is leading against Dara Singh Chauhan by at least 40,000 votes.
