The government-owned Bank of Baroda previously put the Bollywood actor and BJP parliamentarian’s bungalow up for e-auction over a loan default worth $6.7 million.
India's main opposition party questioned a state-owned bank's move to withdraw its auction notice on Bollywood actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarian Sunny Deol’s bungalow on Monday.
The bungalow is in the Juhu area of Mumbai city in Maharashtra state.
The bank had previously put the bungalow on the block for August 25 to recover the loan that the actor has reportedly defaulted on since December 2022. The minimum bid was set at INR 51.4 ($618,089).

In its initial notice, the bank named Ajay Singh Deol, his father Dharmendra Singh Deol, brother Vijay Singh Deol alias Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol’s company Sunny Sounds Pvt Ltd as guarantors.

However, in a Monday statement, the bank informed that “Corrigendum to e-auction notice with regards to sale auction notice in respect of Mr Ajay Singh Deol alias Mr Sunny Deol stands withdrawn due to technical reasons."
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Congress Party General Secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said: “Yesterday afternoon the nation got to know that Bank of Baroda had put up the Juhu residence of BJP MP Sunny Deol for e-auction since he has not paid up INR 560 million [$6.7 million] owed to the Bank. This morning, in less than 24 hours, the nation has got to know that the Bank of Baroda has withdrawn the auction notice due to 'technical reasons'. Wonder who triggered these 'technical reasons'?”
A representative of the BJP parliamentarian said that his team was in the process of resolving the issue and it would be resolved soon. He requested not to speculate on the issue.
