At least four people were killed and five others sustained critical injuries after a service lift at a building under construction in Greater Noida West area of Gautam Buddha Nagar district of India's Uttar Pradesh state collapsed on Friday.
As per reports, the people who died were working as laborers at the site and were using the lift for the construction work. The lift collapsed after its suspension wire broke.
The injured laborers were admitted to the district hospital in Noida where Greater Noida Authority CEO N.G. Ravi and District Magistrate (DM) Manish Kumar Verma were also present.
“Four people have died while five people are in critical condition and undergoing treatment in a city hospital. Our team is present in the city hospital and officers are also present on the site. No one is stranded at the place of the incident whereas an investigation is on,” Verma said.
According to reports, the incident occurred at the Amrapali Dream Valley housing society in Greater Noida West being developed by the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC).
“The service lift, which is used at construction sites, had a fall from the 14th floor height,” he added.
He further added that all the injured are being given proper treatment.
The DM also stated that senior police and district administration officials reached the spot to take stock of the situation, adding that strict action would be taken against the culprits.
