The Russian space agency Roscosmos said that the spacecraft is expected to deliver about 120 kg of cargo to the International Space Station, including photo and video equipment, removable storage media, and onboard documentation.
NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara, as well as Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub are among the crew.
After it is launched, the rocket is expected to follow an ultra-short flight route making only two loops around the Earth which will take about three hours.
