Indian Coast Guard rescued a fishing boat carrying more than ten fishermen off the coast of New Mangalore.
The "Thiruchendur Murugan" boat carrying 10 fishermen headed out for fishing on September 20. However, on September 24, they claimed that the ship became stuck at a distance of 39 nautical miles due to a damaged engine shaft.
The Indian Coast Guard acted quickly to send out Coast Guard vessels C-448 and C-446 to rescue the fishing boat after learning of its predicament. The abandoned fishing boat was found 39 nautical miles off the coast of Mangaluru by Coast Guard boats and aircraft. According to an Indian Coast Guard press statement, the crew suffered greatly during their two days at sea.
The stranded boat was directed to Sea Tiny, another vessel, for towing. The Thiruchendur Murugan was safely towed to the old New Mangalore harbour before sea conditions deteriorated, thanks to a well-coordinated operation involving the Indian Coast Guard, the Fisheries Department and the boat's owner.

The timely and effective response of the Indian Coast Guard to maritime emergencies is demonstrated by the successful rescue of the fishing vessel Thiruchendur Murugan and the medical evacuation of a fisherman suffering a heart attack aboard the fishing vessel Baby Mary-4 within a week, Coast Guard District Commander P K Mishra was quoted as saying by Indian media.

Apart from rescue missions, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) also organises the evacuation of patients from ships at sea who are in danger of dying from medical problems.
ICG ships and aircraft respond to such emergencies by providing medical care and transporting patients to land-based facilities.
