More Gold For India, Modi Says Asian Games 23 Will 'Motivate Upcoming Sportspersons'

The Indian contingent at the 2023 Asian Games has so far excelled in shooting, sailing, wushu, women's cricket and equestrian. India's late medal tally reads: 28 medals in total (7 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze).

As Indian athletes won another gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games in China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the triumph of the women shooters would "motivate several upcoming sportspersons".
In a message posted on Twitter, the Indian Prime Minister said: "Another medal in Shooting at the Asian Games! Congratulations to Divya Thadigol, Esha Singh and Palak on winning a Silver Medal in the 10m Air Pistol Women's team event. Best wishes to them for their future endeavours. Their success will motivate several upcoming sportspersons."
The biggest medal haul so far has come from shooting, with four top finishes.
Interestingly, India broke new ground by winning their first gold medal in cricket at the 2023 Asian Games.
Also, the Indian Equestrian team clinched their first-ever gold medal in the sport in the last 41 years.
This time the Indian contingent has more than 650 athletes participating in the Games.
In the previous edition of the Asian Games held in Jakarta in 2018, Indian players achieved an outstanding feat by securing a record medal haul of 70, which consisted of an impressive 16 gold medals.
The ongoing 19th Asian Games began on 23 September in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. The Games were delayed by one year due to COVID-19 restrictions in China.
