India can be a developed nation with stronger and modern armed forces but it would depend on several other factors such as robust economy, uninterrupted crude oil supply and world peace, a defense expert said on Monday.
Speaking to Sputnik India, Qamar Agha agreed with Delhi Defense Minister Rajnath Singh who said that stronger and modern armed forces are crutial for India if it wants to become a developed nation by 2047.
But, he said, there would be many other factors involved and all those are to be taken into account as one tries to analyze the minister's statement.

"Indian society is progressive and the nation is heading in the right direction but you can't help it in case there's a war somewhere affecting the whole world. Also, irregular monsoon, a natural calamity or a health issue like Covid-19 could derail the whole plan," he said, explaining how several other factors could go out of control any time affecting the world order.

On being asked if India was doing enough to modernize its armed forces, he said it all depends on the kind of money and other resources the country has.

"We are doing well and at the moment are ready to deal with its enemies in case of a war, but a lot is yet to be done, which I believe would be done in case everything that I mentioned a while ago remains under control," he said.

Another expert shared that India has everything needed to be a developed nation by 2047.
To achieve this goal, it needs to train youth, and boost its economy and armed forces, so that no adversary dare disrupt its march toward the aim, he suggested.
Talking to Sputnik India, Major General (Retd.) P.K. Sehgal supported Singh's observation, saying the country is "unstoppable" under the present government.

"In order to become a developed nation, India will certainly need a stronger economy and powerful defense forces. We have the finest defense personnel in the world, and with strong political will we will be able to achieve the aim of becoming a developed nation by the year 2047," Sehgal stated.

"Several steps have already been taken in this direction and the fact that not only Russia - India's most reliable friend - but countries like the US, the UK and many others European countries are opening up to share defense technology with India," he said.
The expert also said that India would have to train its people more to realize the dream of becoming a developed country by the aforesaid date.

"India has 65 percent of its population under the age of 35 and to increase its productivity and capability it will have to upskill them," said the retired major general.
