The decision to hold such a public meeting came only hours after Indian PM Narendra Modi expressed "deep shock" at the tragic loss of life at a Gaza hospital.

A prominent Indian Muslim politician and leader Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday announced that he would convene a protest against the violence taking place in Gaza.

Posting on social network X (formerly Twitter), Owaisi, wrote: "We will be organising a Protest Public Meeting against the atrocities in #Gaza #Palestine. Heads of all political parties & organisations will be invited. No political/election speeches will be made."

Owaisi, head of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party and a member of Lok Sabha (the lower house of parliament), posted the message along with a photograph showing a crying Muslim woman with her daughter in her lap.
Earlier on Tuesday, AIMIM quoted him as remarking on X that the collective punishment being meted out to Palestinians by Israel is "a war crime according to international law".
The demonstration, the Muslim leader has announced, will be held on coming Monday (23 October) evening in the city of Hyderabad in India's Telangana state.
Owaisi represents Hyderabad in Indian Parliament's lower house Lok Sabha.
His decision to hold the demonstration came a day after a hospital in Gaza was attacked, leaving about 500 people dead according to Palestinian health authorities.
Leaders in different parts of the world have condemned the attack on Al-Ahly Al-Mamadany Hospital and some have even blamed Israel for it.
However, Israel, which came under a barrage of rockets from Hamas on 7 October, has disputed who is responsible for the attack on the hospital.

The Israeli military has attributed the explosion to a failed rocket, launched as part of a barrage directed at Israel by the Palestinian militant group.
