Virat Kohli on Sunday equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most number of centuries in One-Day International (ODI) cricket matches.
With this, he also equalled another record of Tendulkar of scoring five centuries against South Africa.
In his 101-run inning, Kohli smashed 10 boundaries and stitched 134-run crucial partnership after India lost both their openers after 10 overs.
Earlier, the Indian batter had surpassed Tendulkar as he went past 1000-runs in the 50-over format of the game for the eighth time in the calendar year. Tendulkar had made 1000-runs in the format for the seven time.
Kohli has been batting really well in the ongoing World Cup. In the first match against Australia, he scored a match-winning 85 runs while against Afghanistan he again scored a half-century.
In the sixth match against England, he was out for a duck but he once again came back strongly against Sri Lanka in the seventh match as he scored 88 runs.
As of now, he stands at number two spot in the list of top run scorers in the World Cup 2023.
With the help of century of Kohli and a half-century by Shreyas Iyer, India has managed to score 326 runs against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
