Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to file a case against US diplomat Donald Lu whom he accuses of plotting to overthrow his government, his sister, Aleema Khan has stated.
Lu serves as assistant secretary at the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs in the US Department of State.
Aleema divulged the PTI chief’s strategy during a press conference after she visited him in jail, media reported on Friday.
She said the PTI chief would file the case in the US courts against Lu if he did not get justice from the Pakistani courts.
Aleema also said that the PTI believed the US Embassy in Pakistan was involved in the conspiracy to topple Khan’s government.
The cricketer-turned-politician is currently in the Rawalpindi-located Adiala Jail along with his deputy Shah Mahmood Qureshi under charges arising from the cipher case.
The cipher was related to the ex-Pakistan ambassador to the US's meeting with Lu.
While claiming that he was reading contents of the cipher, the then-prime minister Khan claimed that it mentioned the phrase: "All will be forgiven for Pakistan if Imran Khan is removed from power."
On March 31, the National Security Committee (NSC) decided to issue a "strong demarche" to the US, alleging its "blatant interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan."
