President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several other politicians and leaders took to social media to extend their wishes to the countrymen on one of the biggest Hindu festival Chhath Puja on Sunday.
"May the worship of Sun God infuse new energy and new enthusiasm in everyone's life. Jai Chhathi Maiya!," PM Modi said on X.
During the four-day-long festival, people fast, bathe in the rivers and offer prayers to thank the Sun God.
President Murmu said along with worshipping the Sun God, Chhath Puja is also an opportunity to worship water bodies.
“This festival related to nature inspires us to promote environmental protection. Come, on this auspicious occasion, let us resolve to move forward by balancing development and environment,” she said in a post on X.
Social media is flooded with videos of Chhath Puja ceremony which is celebrated largely in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh.
In a video, devotees across the states can be seen gathered at the waterside standing waist-deep in the river offering water to the Sun God and women put orange Vermilion on each other's foreheads as they wish each other a Happy Chhath.
