New Delhi is planning to work closely with newly-elected Argentine President Javier Milei and further enhance strategic cooperation with Buenos Aires, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.
Earlier in the day, far-right libertarian Javier Milei won the presidential election in Argentina. He is scheduled to officially take office on December 10.
"Congratulations [to Milei] for the victory in the Presidential elections. Look forward to working closely with you to diversify and expand India-Argentina strategic partnership," Modi said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Following Milei's election, Diana Mondino, candidate for the post of Argentine foreign minister, told Sputnik that her country would not join BRICS under the new president. She added that Buenos Aires would also stop interacting with the governments of China and Brazil, two of Argentina's main trading partners.
