Security arrangements in all major cities of India have been stepped up as people prepare to welcome the New Year, reports said.
Warnings have also been issued in connection with consumption of alcohol and drugs, as well as creating ruckus on the roads, reports, citing police officials, said.
In the national capital city, over 10,000 security personnel have been deployed to keep check on traffic violations. The officers will work in two shifts, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey was quoted by reports as saying.
Similar security arrangements have been made in other cities in all major cities to prevent any instances of lawlessness, they added.
