The Pakistan Election Commission (PEC) on Wednesday charged former Prime Minister Imran Khan and a minister in his government, Fawad Chaudhry, with contempt, according to reports.
Khan, 71, also the founding chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), and Chaudhry were booked in 2022 for allegedly using foul language against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja and the election penalty.
The PEC is holding the two in the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where they are being held in separate chambers.
They were charged with insulting the PEC and the Chief Election Commissioner, the reports read, adding that Khan and Chaudhry denied the charges mentioned in the charge sheet.
Following the indictment, the Pakistani EC adjourned the contempt hearing until January 16.
