India and Nepal signed several bilateral cooperation agreements and also jointly inaugurated cross-border electricity transmission lines on Thursday as their foreign ministers co-chaired the meeting of the 7th India-Nepal Joint Commission in Kathmandu.
India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, who is on a two-day visit to the neighboring Himalayan country, announced the deals on a social media platform.
Several agreements in long-term power trade and cooperation in renewable energy development were signed during the meeting, Jaishankar added.
Along with his Nepalese counterpart NP Saud, he also discussed a range of other issues.
"Discussions focused on our overall bilateral ties, trade & economic relations, land, rail & air connectivity projects, cooperation in defense & security, agriculture, energy, power, water resources, disaster management, tourism, civil aviation, people-to-people & cultural exchanges and development partnership," Jaishankar posted on X after the meeting.
The India-Nepal Joint Commission was established in 1987. It provides a platform for both ministers to review all aspects of the bilateral partnership, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement earlier in the day.
Jaishankar also called on Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at his office at Singhadurbar Palace in Kathmandu and shared his views on Nepal-India bilateral relations before he met with Saud.
